Richard Harry Biehl was born December 23, 1927 in Chicago, IL, to Edwrad and Mithilda (Heun) Biehl. He graduated from Christ (elementary) School and Luther Insititute (now Luther High School North). Following graduation, he served for a short time in the U.S. Army, as World War II was ending. Upon his return, he was employed by the Commonwealth Edison Company in Chicago, until his retirement.

He married Gladys Wogen at Bethel Lutheran Church, June 16, 1956, his home congregation and where Gladys was employed as a parish worker. A daughter was born to them (with much rejoicing), Janice Elaine.

Singing was his joy, and he sang with his church choir for many years, he was president of Bethel Lutheran Church Congregation, Normennenes Singing Society, Scandinavian-American Culture Society and Norwegian National League. He was a Board member of the Bethesda Home for the Aged and served on a number of community committees. Several times he was a delegate to the church’s district conventions. One of his achievements he was proud of was “Surviving the Flambeau”, a rafting, canoeing, overland-trekking test.

In 1996, he moved with his wife Gladys to Lake Mills, IA, Gladys’ home town, to be closer to family, Jan, Greg, Lauren and Kris who had moved here.

Leaving to mourn, but with gratitude for the time with beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, are his wife Gladys, daughter Janice (Greg), grandchildren Lauren (Bart) and Kris, and great grandchildren Phinneas, Rowen and Asher. Along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
