Obituary for Roy E. Hinz

Roy E. Hinz 96 of Buffalo Center, IA, died Friday, February 1, 2019, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, IA.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at the First Reformed Church, 401 1st Street, SW, Buffalo Center, IA 50424, with Pastor Bill Peake officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior (9:30 AM to 10:30 AM) at the church on Wednesday morning.

Burial will take place at Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center, IA.

Roy Everet Hinz was born January 2, 1923 to William and Grace (Austin) Hinz on farm south of Fairmont, MN.

Roy was married to Emma (Dontje) Hinz from April 24, 1949, until her death in 2011. They farmed for many years until they retired and moved in to Buffalo Center. They had three children: LeRoy, Duane and Vicki.

Roy married Claire Rustemier on September 10, 2015. They continued to live in Buffalo Center until his death.

Roy was known for his humor and was well liked by everyone he met. He loved to play pool, fish, boxing, playing cards and wood working.

He had a special relationship with each of his children, which included wrestling and fishing with his boys, and sneaking off to German Valley for ice cream with Vicki.

Those who embrace his memory are his wife, Claire of Buffalo Center, IA; his three children, LeRoy and Teresa Hinz of Spirit Lake, IA, Duane and Janeen Hinz of Buffalo Center, IA, and Vicki Hinz and Tamar Prero of Salt Lake City, UT; five grandchildren, Cory (Danika) Hinz, Jesse (Tracy) Hinz, Misty (Reid) Jensen, Cory (Kari) Meusburger, and Dana (Julian) Navarro; his beloved great-grandchildren, Mack & Abel Navarro, Mollie, Harrison, Xander, Marena & Eli Hinz, Addi, Alex & Gena Jensen, and Meah, Micah & Maddox Meusburger; and two great-great-grandchildren, Emmett Hinz and Dahlia Pitzl. Roy is also survived by his sisters, Betty Wohlford, and Phyllis (Duane) Dahl; sisters-in-law, Artis (Richard) Olson and Viola Krull; and brother-in-law, David (Susan) Dontje; along with other relatives and friends.

Roy was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma, his parents, William and Grace Hinz, and grandson, Mack Hinz.
